Summarized Position Responsibilities:
In this role, you will perform a wide range of operational and maintenance tasks to support the day-to-day upkeep of the City of West Kelowna’s parks and infrastructure. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, landscaping, turf and irrigation maintenance, sports field care, snow removal, garbage collection, and minor building repairs. You will operate various power tools and equipment—from mowers and chainsaws to tractors, excavators, and snowplows—and assist with equipment maintenance and attachment setup. The role also involves safely handling and storing hazardous materials in compliance with federal and provincial guidelines, leading traffic control around work sites, and supporting risk management practices. You will help enforce parks-related bylaws, maintain accurate logs, and train and mentor team members when needed. All duties must be performed in accordance with safe work procedures as required by Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. This position is a full-time 40 hours/week, with a Tuesday to Saturday work schedule.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in general construction, horticulture related work, equipment operation or similar
- Basic First Aid
- Traffic Control
- Fall Protection/Aerial Lift
- Sharps Collection and Disposal
- WHMIS 2015
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License with Heavy Trailer Endorsement
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License with Air Endorsement
- Canadian Certified Playground Inspector
- Pesticide Applicator Certificate
- IIABC Certified Irrigation Technician Level I and/or II Confined Space Entry
- Marine Craft Operator's Certificate
- EOCP Certification in Cross-Connection Control
- Swiftwater Rescue Awareness
- Pool Operators Certificate
- Transport of Dangerous Goods
- Certified fit tester
