Summarized Position Responsibilities:
The Roads Operator I is responsible for a wide range of tasks related to the daily operation and maintenance of municipal roads and infrastructure, including snow and ice control, drainage, paving, concrete work, signage, garbage collection, and general road cleanup. The role involves operating various power tools, hand tools, and vehicles such as pickup trucks and trailers, and occasionally operating and training on heavier equipment. Duties also include performing minor repairs, handling hazardous materials safely, supporting traffic control measures, following safety regulations, and performing other related tasks as needed.

Our Ideal Candidate:

Grade 12 education or equivalent
Minimum of 1-year related experience in general construction, equipment operation or similar
Traffic Control
Fall Protection
Confined Space Entry
Transportation of Dangerous Goods
Occupational First Aid Level I
WHMIS 2015
Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License
Class 5 with either heavy trailer or Air Brake endorsement would be an asset

This role requires knowledge and experience in operating various equipment and hand tools, along with a solid understanding of public works construction and maintenance practices related to roads and drainage. Candidates must be in good physical condition, capable of performing heavy manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions, and able to work flexible hours, including shifts and emergency callouts. A strong grasp of safe working procedures is essential to ensure public and personal safety. The position also demands the ability to work independently or collaboratively, and to interact courteously with the public and colleagues, even under pressure or tight deadlines.
