Summarized Position Responsibilities:
Help shape the future of West Kelowna by working on exciting new developments and policy initiatives! Our ideal candidate is excited at the prospect of helping to shape the City’s future growth with bold housing initiatives in response to the City’s new Official Community Plan, Housing Strategies, and new provincial legislation. 

The Senior Planner can either be focused on policy or land development planning, with key responsibilities including managing complex development applications, coordinating diverse planning initiatives, analyzing data, liaising with stakeholders, and overseeing consultant work. The role also involves preparing Council reports and giving presentations, project administration, and providing direction and support to junior planning staff.

Our Ideal Candidate:
  • Master’s Degree in Planning or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education or experience
  • 6 years related experience
  • Membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia or the Canadian Institute of Planners
  • Candidates should possess extensive experience in community planning, policy development, and urban design, especially within a local government context
  • Expertise in land use policies, environmental and legislative regulations, along with strong research and analytical skills, is crucial.
  • Strong customer service skills, excellent communication skills – verbal and written; the ability to exercise courtesy, tact and diplomacy in the exchange of information with employees and external contacts
  • Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License
