CAREER FIREFIGHTERS

The City of West Kelowna is now recruiting Career Firefighters. These full-time positions involve shift work and adjustments to work schedules in accordance with WKFR's Firefighter - Flex Program. We are seeking qualified individuals to excel in a high-paced and challenging work environment. Applicants must be physically fit, well-coordinated, highly motivated, and willing to work a flexible schedule as part of a team. Shortlisted applicants must pass a written firefighter knowledge assessment, a psychometric assessment, physical fitness testing, swim tests, firefighter skills assessment, police information check with vulnerable sector, and a NFPA 1582 medical evaluation.

Duties include firefighting, emergency medical care, technical rescue, pre-incident planning, mapping, fire inspections, and other related duties. For full details and application instructions, please read the Career Firefighters Information Package.

Required Qualifications/Experience:

Grade 12 education
NFPA 1001, Level 1 and 2
NFPA 472 Hazmat Awareness and Operations
BC EMA First Responder License
Class 3 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement
Personal Driving Record with no more than 6 points in the last 3 years, and no suspensions or prohibitions in the same time period
Current Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector
Must meet NFPA 1582 Medical Standard for Firefighters
Previous firefighting experience (Career IAFF, Paid-on-Call, or BC Wildfire)

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

Post-secondary education or training (i.e. academic, technical, trades)
Other fire/rescue-related certifications (i.e. NFPA 1006, NFPA 1002, etc.)
BC EMA EMR License
Prior police, military, ambulance, or search and rescue experience

These positions require FLEXIBLE shift work, often at short notice, totaling 336 hours in a 56-day cycle.
