Summarized Position Responsibilities:
The Water Supply & Treatment Operator I role involves supporting Water Treatment Plant operators in ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the City’s water treatment facilities. Responsibilities include assisting with the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of plant systems such as water storage, chlorination, UV treatment, and water quality analyzers. The position also involves routine inspections, responding to alarms, assisting with system repairs, conducting water quality sampling, and adhering to safety regulations. The operator will help develop maintenance programs, participate in confined space entries, and support team onboarding.

Our Ideal Candidate:
- Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) Level I in Water Treatment
- 1 year operating experience in an EOCP Class I or higher system / facility
- Basic First Aid (formerly Occupational First Aid Level I), Confined Space Entry, Chlorine Handling, and WHMIS 2015
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
- Completion of any WorkSafeBC recognized course such as: Ground disturbance, Safe Excavation & Shoring, Fall Protection, Confined Space, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, etc.
- Knowledge of the Provincial Drinking Water Act, Regulations, and CWK Bylaws
- Ability to work in elevated areas, confined spaces, and follow safety procedures
- Experience with SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, GIS, and water quality monitoring, and skilled in maintenance and troubleshooting of water systems
- Physically fit for manual labor in all weather conditions
- Able to work independently or as a team, handle stress, and meet deadlines
- Ability to work flexible hours; including shift work, taking part in the afterhours on–call rosters and emergency callouts
